The Orthodox division of Victoria Funerals is headed by Chris Stamelos who has been arranging and conducting Orthodox funerals in Melbourne for over 20 years. Our client families during these years have included members of the Greek, Macedonian, Serbian, Indian, Russian, Romanian and Ukrainian Orthodox communities in Melbourne.
Chris Stamelos has been at the forefront of the Greek community for over 20 years, providing traditional Greek Orthodox funeral services with dignity, dedication and respect. Joined by his wife in their new state-of-the-art premises with on-site Chapel and Mortuary, Chris and Maria continue to provide not only a specialised Orthodox funeral service but one that is now unsurpassed in terms of quality and range of services.
Victoria Funerals was the first independent Greek Funeral Director to make the bold move to introduce Video Tributes, Memorial Cards and Funeral Photography into the Greek Orthodox funeral service in 2008.
Despite some initial reservations towards the video tributes from the more traditional elderly, they soon saw the importance of the photographic presentation of their loved one’s biography. It not only shows their loved one’s life history but also the life of those who lived and grew beside them, enriching each other’s lives. These are created in-house by Victoria Funerals and are uploaded to the Victoria Funerals website for access by friends and family all over the world who have the password.
Memorial Cards were well received and have now been accepted as an integral part of Greek Orthodox funeral services organised by first generation Greek Australians. Victoria Funerals is still the only independent Greek Funeral Director who offers these three services as part of a traditional Orthodox funeral service.
Victoria Funerals is the only company in Victoria to have an independent Greek Funeral Director who is a member of the Australian Funeral Directors’ Association.
Victoria Funerals is honored to be the preferred Funeral Director for priests’ own funerals, having conducted the largest number of funerals for priests over the last two decades.
Victoria Funerals conducts the majority of Greek Orthodox funerals in Melbourne. Chris and Maria are often seen in the midst of the Greek Orthodox community that has come to know them and respect them, as they participate in and sponsor Church festivals and fundraisers.
Over the years Victoria Funerals has established itself as a funeral provider for many families in the Macedonian, Serbian and Indian Orthodox communities who now recognise all the Victoria Funerals staff to the point where we feel like we are members of their community.
We are specialists in the religious and cultural requirements and we are well acquainted with most of the priests.
The complete satisfaction of our families, their recommendation of us to others and their continued support is what has enabled us to keep assisting those in need with our specialised expertise while offering service and facilities that are second to none.
